Green Architecture Techniques such as green roof and façade greening have been recently increasing in many cities.It brings many benefits to people in urban area such as mitigating an urban heat island effect, increasing the amenity of the cities and relaxation and conservation of biodiversity, and other benefits. Because of a lack of tools for quantifying the value, Green Architecture Techniques have not been well recognized by decision makers such as building owners of private sector. This study therefore aims at finding out this tool by doing various researches.First, we made a questionnaire by using Contingent Valuation Method, in which examinees are given several photographs of different scale of Green Architecture Techniques. The examinees will consequently understand that the effect of Green Architecture Techniques is proportional to the scale of greening. Next, these examinees are divided into several groups and receive different information about Green Architecture Techniques. One group receives only positive information while next group receives only negative information. We also give other group typical information of the effects. As the result, it was proved that the valuations of each examinee were subjectively influenced by types of given information.

A model for simulating the recycle process of wooden material produced by the deconstrucion of wooden houses has been developed, which is capable of describing the material flow of wooden resource based on logistic condition in a local area. The model, called recycle logistics model, consists of several agents which simulate wooden houses, deconstruction companies, intermediate process factories and recycle material production factories in the real world. They play their own role in computer program directed by political scenarios which control the material flow. An applied simulation for the recycle process in Yamaguchi Prefecture shows the useability and effectivness.

The first purpose of this study is to clarify the relation among slipperiness of floor finishing, visual and touching impression for floor finishing, and walking behavior. The second purpose is to quantify walking properties. First, walking behavior of totally 35 people was measured and sensory test was performed. Then correlations among above-mentioned three factors were studied. The correlations of old people were better than those of young people. Next, principal component analysis for walking behavior was performed to quantify walking properties. The result is that the first principal component was most effective to quantify the force of walking properties. Therefore, it might be better that people was not simply grouped based on age but on the first principal component from the viewpoint of walking behavior. Then appropriateness of such grouping was studied to see change of the correlations among above-mentioned three factors. The result is that the correlations of people grouped by the first principal component were better than those grouped by age.

Since falling down accidents of old peple are increasing today, we must study slipperiness of floors. In this paper, we study old people's walking characteristics by comparing with young peple's one. According to differentiation of moving locus of a heel, old people have a tendency to slide their feet. Three factors (sensory test about slipperiness,angle of just landing foot that is one of walking characteristics and coefficient of slip resistance(C.S.R)) were corresponding each other in case of younf people, though it wasn't true in case of old peple. We think that the reasons are due to narrowness of C.S.R. old peple's way of judgement and their walking characteristics. Since old peple can't recognize the slipperiness of floors, finishing materials of floor need to be selected considering the old people's characteristic sence.

As the case study for the cognitive engineering for architecture, we tried a few investigations about the frequency of children's touch on the building elements in some elementary schools. As the results, the following conclusions were obtained '. the finishing materials make the difference of the frequency ; a strong relation is recognized between children's postures, for example sitting or lying on the floor, and the floor finishing materials ; "affordance" proposed by Gibson, J. J. may exist in building finishing materials.

We clarified following points on this study ;
1 The concept of externality :
With considering meaning of the externality, we uncovered its five characters ; dignity, education, community, business and optional value.
2.Depopulated area/ a performing art center :
According to the case study, activities of the art center stimulated the communication on any strata between villages, generations and family members. Main part of externality would be belonging to the field of communication on community and education. It was unclear that influence of externality around business, optional value and dignity.
3.City/ an information facility :
According to the case study, we recognized externality on education, such as, many schools taking the facility as a teaching material and on business, such as, increasing the number of cafes around the facility. Interestingly, dignity might be changed its character form as a symbol to as a cool stuff.
4.Externality on cultural facilities :
Most important role of externality is assumed stimulating communication on the field of community, education and business. Existence of art works is effective to create fresh contents for communication and people playing a role as a node of networking contribute to vital communication.
5.To get the externality from cultural facilities with PEI ;
On PFI project, to secure the outcome of the externality, following point should be important. 1)articulate mission for the project 2)expanded client capability to include externality 3)quality based bidder selection 4)good cooperation with financial circles

While geometrical randomness of cracks in concrete structures on micro, meso and macro levels were taken into consideration, methodologies for evaluating the damage level developed and fundamental studies to apply these methodologies for existing damaged concrete structures were carried out. Obtained results are summarized as follows:
1) As a fundamental study to link crack information and damage level of concrete structures, microcracks on the surface of concrete cylinders were observed by means of microscope. Then relationships between the crack information and the stiffness reduction, and/or the velocity of ultrasonic wave were studied experimentally.
2) Microcracks in concrete specimens damaged by freezing and thawing action or cyclic loading were statistically analyzed. Since the microcracks due to freeze and thawing action were so thin and densely distributed that ordinary counting methods don't work sufficiently, a new method was developed on the basis of a stochastic geometry concept. These microcracks due to freezing and thawing actions were remarkably accumulated in an early stage of the cycles and then gradually increased.
3) Strain-rate calculated by the differential of the stress-strain curve showed a possibility to be treated as an index to quantify the damage level.
4) Fractal analyses were carried out to analyze crack patterns observed in existing structures so as the fractal dimension to be a meso level parameter. Damage levels of existing concrete structures were qualitatively evaluated from the typical crack patterns.
5) Multifractarity was examined in cracks on concrete walls. Macroscopic changing patterns of the fractality in each sub-area were also investigated by analyzing the subdivided concrete walls.

Mental process in realizing an architectural plan drawing have been studied by cognitive science approach. A new test method "Blank-Plan Test" and its control program have been developed. A blank plan is defined as a drawing plan without any other information than main walls and columns, it is analogy to blank "blank map". Blank-Plan test is guess room name for a sheet of blank-plan, subjects have to solve the problem with making verbal report. A revised test method "Blank-Image Test"has been developed, which includes computer image at background in a blank plan. The two test methods provide us representation for knowledge of dwelling house by using protocol analysis.
A simulation program to solve the blank-plan problem has been developed as a prototype in a smalltalk environment. The program has basic knowledge concerning dwelling house that is realized by blank-plan tests. Though its deduction method is a linear search, the program is capable of solving blank-plan of Japanese typical dwellings.
