    A double-pass pumping is useful for quasi-three-level lasers exhibiting a reabsorption loss. In this paper, the double-pass pumping method with a simple cavity configuration is proposed, and a laser performance of a Tm: YAG laser using this method is investigated. In our experiments, a lower threshold and a higher slope efficiency were achieved, and then an optical-to-optical conversion efficiency was increased by a factor of 1.3, which is compared with that in a conventional end-pumping, namely a single-pass pumping. There was a good agreement between a theory and experimental results.

    This paper reports CW diode-pumped Tm(,Ho):YAG lasers and a flashlamp pumped Tm,Ho:YAG laser with Q-switches,which is lasing at near 2μm.The threshold of 107mW and the slope efficiency of 68. 8%,well above threshold,has been obtained using the CW Tm:YAG laser at 10℃.The flashlamp pumped Tm,Ho:YAG laser using an A, O Q- switch produced an output energy of 55mJ perpulse with a pulse width of 200ns when operating at an input energy of 170J,rod temperature of 15℃,and a repetition rate of 1.3Hz.

    当初の研究計画に従い、Hoレーザー励起用のTmレーザーの試作とその評価を行った。レーザー結晶はロッドタイプのTm:YLFとし、3方向側面励起構造のレーザーヘッドを構築した。光学設計上は、直径3mmのレーザーロッド断面内において中央の直径2mmの円形領域を強く励起する構造としていたが、実測した蛍光強度分布はこれとよく一致した。開発したTm:YLFレーザーヘッドを用いて実施したレーザー発振試験では、設計時の動作解析シミュレーションで想定されていたスパイク状のパルス発振が達成された。ただし、高出力電源の納期の延期により、最大励起エネルギーの半分での動作となってしまったため、小さい出力結合(出力鏡反射率97%)による発振しきい値付近での動作試験にとどまった。その結果、レーザー出力の確認は7mJまでとなったが、このデータを最適反射率及び最大励起エネルギーでの出力に換算すると、開発したレーザーヘッドで得られる出力は、目標の100mJを大きく上回ることが確かめられた。レーザー自体は設計通りに動作しているため、機材が整い次第、改めて高出力動作試験を実施する。Tmレーザー開発と並行して、共振器内励起レーザーの設計法について検討した。Tmレーザー共振器内励起Hoレーザーでは、Tmレーザーの出力結合は、Ho結晶の吸収スペクトルを反映した波長依存性をもつことになる。この条件の下、Tm:YLF及びHo:YLFの分光データを用いて、レーザーの成立性について検討した。解析の結果、Ho:YLF結晶を共振器内励起している時のTm:YLFレーザーは、π偏光では波長1.91μm付近、σ偏光では波長1.93μm付近で最も低しきい値となり、Ho結晶はTmレーザー光に対する吸収率が7~10%程度となるように選択する必要があることが明らかとなった。この結果を反映させ、Hoレーザーヘッドの開発に着手した。

    A carbon dioxide (CO2) recycle system utilizing photocatalytic conversion of CO2 to gas fuels such as methane (CH4) was developed. In this system, CH4 can be produced by CO2 photoreduction under deep-ultraviolet light irradiation on an Au-nanoparticle-deposited TiO2 (Au/TiO2) catalyst. We introduced mid-infrared laser irradiation for the excitation of CO2 on the Au/TiO2 catalyst surface in order to improve the CH4 production efficiency. As a result, the CH4 production efficiency can be increased by a factor of 1.7, compared with that without the CO2 excitation. The result of observations of Au/TiO2 catalysts by using a transmission electron microscope suggests that further improvement in the CH4 production efficiency can be obtained by optimizing the deposition of Au nanoparticles on the TiO2 catalyst.

    We have researched a THz-wave parametric oscillator (TPO) and THz-wave parametric generator (TPG) based on the polariton mode scattering of MgO : LiNbO_3 crystals [2]. The TPO has proved to be a useful coherent THz-wave source that operates at room temperature. It is continuously tunable in the 100 to 300 μm (1 to 3 THz) range in one operation and can emit peak powers of up to several tenths mW. The difference between a TPO and a TPG is that the former has an idler cavity while the latter does not. The THz-wave linewidth of a conventional TPG exceeds 1 THz and the output is much smaller than that from a TPO. The TPG spectrum was narrowed to the Fourier transform limit of the pulsewidth by introducing an injection seeding to the idler. The THz-wave linewidth was dramatically sharpened from >1 THz to 100 MHz. A wide tunability from 0.7 to 2.4 THz (wavelength : 125 to 430 μm) was observed using an external cavity diode laser as an injection seeder. The continuous scanning and narrow spectral bandwidth of the is-TPG were verified in the absorption spectrum of low-pressure water vapor. Simultaneously, the output obtained was more stable than that from conventional TPG, TPO, and is-TPO. As far as we know, injection seeding to ns optical parametric generators (OPG) has not been reported until recently, due to the limit of parametric gain.
